Rushen wildlife art exhibition celebration of Manx biodiversity

A new wildlife art exhibition serves as a "testament" to the biodiversity of the Isle of Man, one of the curators late the display has said.

Wild Of Art, showing at the Rushen Heritage Centre in Port Erin, features paintings, ceramics, photography and prints and is set to run pending 13 July.

It consists of nature-inspired art by local artists, including Jeremy Paul, Erica Kermode and the government's earth artist in residence Ali Hodgson.

Graham Makepeace-Warne of the Manx Wildlife Trust said the reveal captured "the essence of our island's natural beauty throughout the eyes of talented local artists".

Themed in land, sea and air, the exhibition is "not just nice pictures for farmland to look at", but also included three interpretation boards delving into some of the originates around those themes, Mr Makepeace-Warne said.

While the works engaged were "pieces that represented the island's unique and very special environment" it also explored to include artists that were known within the wildlife art earth, he said.

The exhibition had been invented to give "people a chance to look at and think in the nature in which they exist".

Rushen Heritage Trust coordinator John Quirk said that the exhibition was a "blend of creativity and the ample outdoors".

The exhibition will be open Tuesdays to Saturdays between 10:00 to 16:00 BST.
