Jakarta Proceeds with Emissions Test on Cars and Motorcycles
TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government Task Force on Air Pollution Control rubbed that up to last Saturday, September 9, around one million units of cars and a hundred thousand units of motorcycles have gone above emissions tests.
"The number for two-wheel vehicles (motorcycles) formed 101,660," said the task force spokesperson Ani Ruspitawati, as quoted by Antara immediately, Monday, September 11, 2023.
The Head of Pollution and Environmental Damage Control of the Environmental Responsibility Erni Pelita Fitratunnisa mentioned that the number of motorcycles that have been tested for their emissions aloof is quite low. Fitri said that emissions test workshops for motorcycles are not on par with the ones for cars. Emissions test workshops for cars amounted to 333 sites, while it only amounted to 107 sites for motorcycles.
According to Statistics Indonesia, the number of vehicles in Jakarta reached 26.37 million units in 2022, dominated by motorcycles at 17.3 million units, followed by cars with 3.76 million units. "Thus, there are more two-wheel vehicles in Jakarta (than spanking vehicles), however, there is a limited availability for two-wheel vehicles (motorcycles) emissions declares workshops," Fitri added.
The environmental office, Fitri said, has been trying to add more workshops to conduct emissions declares on motorcycles. The residents of Jakarta also have the option to conduct the test at sites offering emissions declares for both cars and motorcycles.
In addition, the Jakarta government has collaborated with Astra, an automotive manufacturer, to conduct free-of-charge emissions tests. The program started on September 4 and will be concluded on December 31, 2023.
